How often should gutters be cleaned?

Accepted Answer

One to two times a year for homes around trees. Fall clears the big drop before freeze-up, spring catches whatever came down after and the seeds and buds from May and June.

No trees? You likely don't need annual cleaning. It matters once your shingles pass fifteen years and start shedding grit, or after roof work leaves debris behind.

Do I need to be home?

As much as we'd love to meet you, it's not necessary. All we need is access to outdoor water and power outlets, and gates left unlocked. Your invoice arrives by email once we're finished, and your before and after photos follow that evening or the next day.

How do I know the gutters are actually clean and the downspouts are clear?

Accepted Answer

You shouldn't have to take anyone's word for the condition of something you can't see, so we don't ask you to. We use our vacuum to blow air down each downspout from the top and check that it comes out the bottom. If it doesn't, that one's clogged, and we get up on a ladder and take the downspout apart piece by piece to clear it. Before and after photos follow that evening or the next day, so you can see it for yourself.

How do I pay?

Your invoice arrives by email once we're finished, and you can pay online. Nothing to leave under the mat, nobody waiting in your driveway, and no one chasing you afterward.

Is your gutter vacuum strong enough for wet debris?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It looks like a shop vac with a long extension, and that's not far off, but it's purpose-built for gutters and runs two motors for the suction you need to lift wet leaves, sludge and packed-down shingle grit. That's what most gutters are actually full of, especially in fall. These systems have been standard in Europe for years and they handle the job from the ground. In all our years doing this, the only thing we've had to pull out by hand was a four-foot tree growing out of someone's gutter.

Do you clear underground drainage lines?

No. We clean your gutters and clear your downspouts to the point where they enter the ground. Underground lines need jetting equipment and a different specialty. If your downspouts are backing up at grade level, that's usually the sign, and we'll flag it if we spot it.
